To bring out innovative projects and structure research

NExT has published several calls for projects in the field of research, training, innovation and international development Monday 3 December.
3 calls for projects and 1 call for applications in research domain. Meeting with Hervé Haquin, Research Project Manager NExT

Interview with Hervé Haquin, Research Project Manager

What are the objectives of these calls for projects ?

The NExT project aims to amplify and strengthen research on the Nantes site. To achieve this, one of the objectives is to develop interdisciplinary approaches in order to bring out innovative projects in NExT’s priority themes. With the internal interdisciplinary projects, we want to promote the bringing together of researchers from the nantes site working on complementary themes around common scientific projects. The Clusters also meet this objective and are intended to structure interdisciplinary research in the long term and by theme. As part of these two calls for projects, the Humanities and Social Sciences must take a preferently place to meet the new challenges posed by the health and industry of the future.

The second objective is to develop the internationalization of Nantes research either through research networks (IRP) or the reception of high potential researchers (NExT Talents). The projects that will be funded should will to create or strengthen links with international teams and increase the visibility of Nantes site and his attractivity.

« The two themes on which we wish to accelerate the research must be the locomotives allowing a ripple effect on the other disciplines«

What are the criteria for success ?
The appropriation of these new tools by researchers seems to me to be a decisive criterion for developing the dynamics in place. The implementation of interdisciplinary projects, the development of international collaborations and the arrival of high level researchers on the site will contribute to the provision of new solutions to the complex issues raised by the health and industry of the future and increase the recognition of nantes site.

How does research component foreshadow the new university of Nantes ?
The NExT project aims to make Nantes an internationally renowned university site through cutting-edge research in the fields of future health and the industry of the future. These two themes on which we wish to accelerate the research must be locomotives for the new university with a ripple effect on all of its disciplines.

Call for proposals

Integrative research clusters (IRC)

The objective is to federate an interdisciplinary research community around a topic in link with NExT’s thematics. The objectives of integrative research clusters are to structure and significantly develop research, training and innovation on a topic that meets scientific ambitions of the site.

They must play a role of facilitator and catalyst of new research projects and initiatives that can be financed by other NExT mechanisms (international partnerships, interdisciplinary projects, new recrutements, Masters of Excellence …) and by external funding. The funding of the Clusters will make it possible to organize the networking of research teams from the Nantes site.

Internal interdisciplinary projects (IIP)

The objective is to initiate or extend a collaboration between research teams working on complementary topics. These projects aim to create partnerships between researchers from distinct and complementary scientific fields in order to address a new scientific issue through an interdisciplinary approach. The proposed research projects will have to concern one of the priority axes of the NExT Initiative.

NExT Junior Talent & NExT Senior Talent programs

The partners of NExT’s Initiative have set themselves the strategic objective of strengthening their current efforts to discover, attract and foster the development of talent on the Nantes site, and in particular to recruit new profiles, French and international.

The NExT Junior Talent dispositiv accompanies the arrival of high-potential scientific’profiles on the Nantes site until obtaining a position in one of the founding establishments of NExT. This device gives the young researcher the means to develop his own research project with a dedicated team and to gain faster access to recognition at the international level.

The NExT Senior Talent dispositiv supports the arrival on the territory of Nantes of experienced researchers holding a position. This arrangement gives researchers the means to accelerate its international research activities in one of NExT’s founding institutions.

International Research Partnerships (IRP)

The objective of the IRPs is to establish international research networks specialized in the priority areas of NExT. Networks established between research unitsmay foster and develop international partnerships with high level institutions. Funding of € 400,000 per IRP will be awarded for three years to a research group in Nantes, with the aim to develop a partnership with international research groups working on the same topic.
